Here are 5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: Aug. 8-10
All corners of the city will be full of excitement in the next few days, so this August weekend is the best time to venture out and explore. Here are a few events to get you started.
Barrel and Flow
This acclaimed festival celebrating Black brewers and artists is back for another year. The festival will combine more than 30 breweries from around the country (and more than 40 collaborations between breweries) with a slate of live musicians, DJs, speakers, artisans and visual artists.
The festival itself will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at The Stacks at 3 Crossings in the Strip District, but there are a number of events surrounding Barrel and Flow, including a Friday conference, a Friday bottle share, a Sunday brunch at Kingfly Spirits and a Saturday night afterparty at Burghers Brewing in Millvale.

Kinetic Theatre’s ‘Hangmen’
This weekend, Kinetic Theatre will be producing the United States and Pittsburgh premiere of the play “Hangmen.” The play was written by the king of Black comedy Martin McDonagh, who directed films including “In Bruges,” “Seven Psychopaths” and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” as well as many highly awarded plays.
The story follows a talented hangman after the death penalty is abolished in the United Kingdom in 1965. It made its debut at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2015. Now, you can see it at the Carnegie Stage in Carnegie through Aug. 24.

‘Mean Girls’ at the Carnegie Science Center
It’s been more than two decades since “Mean Girls” became the teen comedy for a generation. The film was written by Tina Fey and stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Fey. On Friday, you can see every hilarious minute of this “fetch” film on the really, really big screen at the Carnegie Science Center on the North Shore.
There’s only one showing, so make sure to get your tickets soon! The movie will show at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rangos Giant Cinema at the Carnegie Science Center. Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for non-members. Get yours at carnegiesciencecenter.org.
Bucco Luau Weekend
Enjoy a tropical trip without leaving the North Shore with luau-themed events and giveaways at PNC Park this weekend. If you haven’t made it to a Pirates baseball game yet, this is the ideal time to enjoy a summer tradition.
Friday night will include a Miller Lite pregame happy hour and a Hawaiian-themed Pirates bucket hat giveaway to the first 20,000 fans. Saturday will have a block party on Federal Street that includes live music and drink specials, plus the first 20,000 fans will get a Hawaiian shirt upon entering the ballpark. Then on Sunday, the kids are the center of attention. Kids 14 and under will receive a Pirates Hawaiian-themed bucket hat, the Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street before the game, and kids will have the chance to run the bases on the field after the game.
