Friday marks the halfway point of the transfer portal window (Jan. 2-16), which began a week ago and remains open for seven more days.
So far for Pitt, it’s been a revolving door of new players joining the program and others opting to leave.
Heading into the weekend, the Panthers secured help at tight end via a commitment from Carson Kent (Oklahoma) as well as long snapper Justin Schmidt from Purdue.
Kent confirmed On3’s initial report, and the Lafayette Courier & Journal reported Schmidt’s joining of the Panthers.
A 6-foot-4, 247-pounder originally from Milton, Ga., Kent arrives at Pitt following one year with the Sooners, where he played a reserve role, making three catches for 26 yards.
Previously, Kent played three years (2022-24) at Kennesaw State, where he amassed 32 catches for 382 yards and three scores.
Overall, he brings 34 games of collegiate experience to Pitt, where he’ll have one year of eligibility to play.
Pitt’s tight ends room is set to look substantially different than a year ago, as Justin Holmes and Jake Overman graduated, and Malachi Thomas transferred to LSU.
Schmidt, a Thomas Jefferson alum, joins his hometown program after a year at Purdue.
A four-year starter at long snapper for Thomas Jefferson, Schmidt adds help at a position that is losing two-year starter Nilay Upadhyayula to graduation and Nico Crawford to the transfer portal (Michigan).
