Jeff Capel added an important piece to his front line Thursday when grad transfer Eric Hamilton, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound power forward, announced on his Twitter account his plans to enroll this season.

Hamilton, who has one year of eligibility remaining, played in all 36 games for UNC Greensboro (29-7) last season, starting six while averaging 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds. He led the team in shooting percentage, hitting 78 of 132 shots. He did not attempt a 3-pointer.
He played his first two seasons at Wichita State before transferring to UNC Greensboro.
Capel, who is entering his second season as Pitt’s coach, needs to boost his team’s presence in the paint, with Kene Chukwuka recovering from hip surgery and expected to miss a significant number of games. Hamilton likely will share playing time with returning center Terrell Brown and incoming freshman Karim Coulibaly.
Hamilton’s commitment gives Pitt 11 players on its roster, with two available scholarships.
