Pitt adds Louisiana Tech wide receiver Jerrod 'Bub' Means from transfer portal
Despite a full stable of talented wide receivers, Pat Narduzzi didn’t believe Pitt had enough at that position. So, he dipped into the NCAA transfer portal and secured another — for now and future seasons.
Jerrod “Bub” Means, who played at Louisiana Tech last season, announced on his Instagram page Saturday morning that he has committed to the Panthers. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Means, who had 25 scholarship offers coming from Lovejoy, Ga., in 2019, originally committed to North Carolina, but signed with Tennessee. He also had interest from Georgia Tech, Virginia, Indiana, Northwestern, Missouri and Rutgers, among several others, according to Rivals.com.
At Tennessee, he played sparingly as a defensive back before transferring to Louisiana Tech. He didn’t play in 2020, but led the team in yards per reception (19.6) last season. He caught 22 passses for 430 yards and two touchdowns, and also returned 12 kickoffs for an average of 20.3 yards.
Means will join a veteran receiver group that includes Biletnikoff winner Jordan Addison, senior Jared Wayne, Jaylon Barden, Jaden Bradley and Konata Mumpfield, who was a freshman All-American at Akron last season.
Narduzzi has not been shy about using the portal this offseason while preparing to defend Pitt’s ACC championship without Heisman finalist Kenny Pickett. So far, he has added Means, Mumpfield, quarterback Kedon Slovis (USC) and linebackers Shayne Simon (Notre Dame) and Tylar Wiltz (Missouri State).
