The first move of Pitt basketball’s offseason occurred Tuesday when backup forward Noah Collier entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Collier, a sophomore, entered games when center John Hugley was in foul trouble or needed a break. He made only two starts in two seasons, averaging 9.4 minutes, 1.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 44 career games.
He played in all 32 games this season, with an average of 1.5 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 53.8% (21 of 39) from the field. He scored a career-best seven points against Towson. His six rebounds against Colgate represented a personal high.
While losing Collier and Mouhamadou Gueye, who has exhausted his eligibility, coach Jeff Capel must look to fortify his forecourt before the 2022-2023 season with more productive scorers, rebounders and shot blockers who can complement Hugley.
Collier, 20, has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
