On the eve of Pitt baseball’s home opener Wednesday against Bucknell, the Panthers achieved their highest ranking in program history, No. 14 in the nation in the Baseball America poll.

With coach Mike Bell in his third season, Pitt is ranked in all five major polls, including DIBaseball.com (No. 15), Collegiate Baseball (No. 18), USA TODAY Sports Coaches’ Poll (No. 18) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association (No. 20).

Pitt won two of three games over the weekend at Virginia, 2-1 and 6-2. The Panthers’ 10-4 loss to the Cavaliers on Sunday broke a three-game winning streak.

After recording the series victory against Virginia, Pitt (11-5, 8-4 ACC) concluded a 16-game streak away from home with four ACC weekend series to start the season.

The Panthers are tied with North Carolina and Georgia Tech for the ACC Coastal lead.
