Pitt basketball announces dates for first 12 games of 2019-2020 season
Pitt announced the first 12 games of its men’s basketball schedule Tuesday, including the opener Nov. 6 against ACC opponent Florida State at the Petersen Events Center. It’s the first time Pitt will start the season with a conference game.
All but three of the 12 will be played at the reconfigured Pete, with benches flipped to the opposite side of the court in front of the Oakland Zoo. Pitt officials made the move in order for TV cameras to capture the atmosphere created by Zoo members.
After nonconference foe Nicholls State visits the Pete on Nov. 9, Pitt will travel to Moon on Nov. 12 to help Robert Morris open its new campus home, Peoples Court at UPMC Events Center. Three days later, West Virginia will be the guest at the Pete for the 187th renewal of the Backyard Brawl.
Home games are scheduled Nov. 18 and 22 against Monmouth and Arkansas-Pine Bluff as part of the Quicken Loans Fort Myers Tip-Off. Championship round games will be played at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla., against Kansas State on Nov. 25 and either Northwestern or Bradley on Nov. 27, the day before Thanksgiving.
December is a light month for Pitt, with only four nonconference home games — Rutgers (Dec. 3), Northern Illinois (Dec. 16), Binghamton (Dec. 20) and Canisius (Dec. 30).
The rest of the ACC schedule will be played in 2020, including a game at Florida State and home and away matchups against Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina and Syracuse.
Pitt also will play Boston College, Clemson, defending national champion Virginia and Wake Forest at the Pete and Duke, N.C. State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech on the road.
A complete schedule, with game times and TV platforms, will be announced in late August.
