Pitt women’s basketball coach Lance White coaches against Georgetown during the 2019-20 season.

Pitt’s efforts to return its athletic programs to normal offseason schedules will continue Monday when five teams — men’s and women’s basketball and soccer and volleyball — are welcomed back to campus for voluntary activities.

As with the football team that began returning June 8, each player will undergo a period of quarantine, which is the initial phase of Pitt’s offseason model. Those who are medically cleared may participate in the next phase of workout sessions, supervised by the strength and training staff, but with no more than 10 participants at a time.

Several health and safety protocols will be implemented, including:

• Education for all coaches and players.

• Testing developed with input from infectious disease experts and other medical professionals.

• Enhanced cleaning protocols for all athletic facilities.

• Mandatory daily screening questionnaire and temperature checks for players and staff.

• Utilization of personal protective equipment.

• Contact tracing course completion by all members of the training staff.

“We remain committed to our guiding principle — the health and well-being of our student-athletes and staff — as we continue to implement the campus return plan that we worked diligently with university leadership and medical experts to develop,” director of athletics Heather Lyke said in a statement.

Pitt will continue to employ a staggered and phased return to offseason participation for each of its remaining intercollegiate programs. The return for others will be announced at later date.
