Two Pitt players switching positions, one who has battled a variety of injuries and a redshirt sophomore who moved onto the No. 1 offensive line two weeks ago were named winners of the Ed Conway Award as the most improved players in spring ball.
Former safety Phil Campbell, who is making a transition from safety to outside linebacker, and Steel Valley graduate Paris Ford, who is back at safety after spending much of last season at cornerback were honored as the defense’s most improved players.
Offensive tackle Carter Warren, a redshirt sophomore with no starting experience, and wide receiver Tre Tipton, a senior from Apollo-Ridge who enjoyed an injury-free camp were the picks on offense.
This is the first time since 2011 (defensive lineman Tyrone Ezell and cornerback Buddy Jackson) that coaches picked co-winners.
