Pitt forward Nate Santos enters transfer portal
Pitt sophomore forward Nate Santos, whose playing time diminished toward the end of the basketball season, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
He is the second member of the 2022-23 team to announce plans to transfer. Center John Hugley, who missed all but eight games with a knee injury and personal issues, also has left the team.
Santos averaged 2.8 and 1.6 points per game in his two seasons at Pitt. During the recently completed season, his best games included seven points against West Virginia, Michigan and Louisville.
Known as a good shooter when he joined Pitt as a three-star prospect from Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., he made only five of 32 3-point attempts this season and 11 of 49 the previous season.
Santos, 6-foot-7, played 30 minutes against West Virginia on Nov. 11, but after playing 19 on Feb. 7 against Louisville, he totaled only 24 in Pitt’s final eight games.
Coach Jeff Capel and his staff are in the process of finding replacements for Santos and four others — Nelly Cummings, Nike Sibande, Greg Elliott and Jamarius Burton — who have exhausted their eligibility.
