While losing quarterback Kedon Slovis and facing the possibility of safeties Brandon Hill and Erick Hallett II moving on, Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi did what any college coach would do in this era of free agency — he turned to the NCAA transfer portal.

Narduzzi landed a second former WPIAL star Thursday night when former Peters Township safety Donovan McMillon, who is leaving the University of Florida after two seasons, announced his commitment to the Panthers. McMillon (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) joins former Pine-Richland, Notre Dame and Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec as Narduzzi’s first two commitments from the portal this offseason.

Securing McMillon improves depth in the Pitt secondary and offers Narduzzi an experienced option as a starter. Holdover safeties Javon McIntyre, a redshirt freshman, and sophomore P.J O’Brien also will be in the competition for starting jobs.

When he left Peters Township in the class of 2021, McMillon was ranked the No. 8 overall prospect in Pennsylvania and 14th safety in the nation, one notch below Miami’s Kamren Kinchens, who was named an Associated Press All-American this season. McMillon also was No. 199 on Rivals.com’s top 250 prospect list.

He received plenty of scholarship offers during his first recruitment period, largely from Power 5 schools, including Pitt, Penn State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, West Virginia, Tennessee and Oklahoma. He made three visits to Pitt, according to Rivals, before choosing Florida in the summer before his senior season.

At Florida, he played in all 25 games the past two seasons, primarily on special teams.
