Defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington of Imhotep Charter School in Philadelphia has two years of high school football ahead of him, but he made up his mind early and verbally committed to Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi on Monday.

Only a sophomore, but a four-star recruit nonetheless, Whittington is ranked the No. 6 overall prospect in Pennsylvania among the class of 2024 by Rivals.com. He also is ranked No. 7 in the U.S. among sophomore defensive tackles and 146th among players at all positions.

Whittington is one of 15 players on Rivals’ list of the top 250 sophomores who have pledged to a college. The list includes No. 88 Cooper Cousins, an offensive tackle from McDowell, whoverbally has committed to Penn State.

Whittington (6-foot-2, 255 pounds) also has scholarship offers from Power 5 schools Penn State, West Virginia, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
