Pitt-Greensburg's Brody Jackson, Hayley Schaetzle tabbed AMCC coaches of year

Brody Jackson led Pitt-Greensburg to one of its best regular seasons in the history of the men’s basketball program.

On Tuesday, he was recognized for the accomplishment as he was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year.

His counterpart, Hayley Schaetzle, received the same conference honor on the women’s side.

In addition, UPG junior point guard Matt Johnson was picked for the All-AMCC First Team, junior guard Cam Seigfreid (Penn-Trafford) was a second-team selection and sophomore Jojo France made the third team.

UPG won 13 more games than it did a year ago, finishing 20-6 after falling in the AMCC semifinals.

Jackson, in his third season, led the Bobcats to a 20-win season for the first time since 2000. The team finished 12-1 at home and went on to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs.

Johnson, despite a late-season injury that cost him his final three games, led the team with 15.8 points. Seigfreid scored his 1,000th career point this year and averaged 15 points while shooting 47 percent from 3-point range.

France set the team record for 3-pointers in a season (81).

Junior Nadege Durand was named to the All-AMCC First Team after averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds a game.

Junior Shaquoia McCray, her teammate and another tenacious rebounder, made the third team.

Schaetzle guided the Lady Bobcats to an 17-10 mark for the team’s first winning season since 2015. UPG reached the AMCC semifinals. The team allowed theh fewest points in the AMCC (55.5).
