Pitt head coach Jeff Capel watches from the bench during the first half against Radford on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at Petersen Events Center.

Jeff Capel landed his first Class of 2026 verbal commitment Friday evening, as 4-star guard Jermal Jones chose Pitt over a host of high-major offers.

Jones, who recently officially visited Pitt, confirmed the news on social media platforms X and Instagram.

A 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard out of IMG Academy in Florida, Jones is ranked by On3/Rivals as one of the top 100 (No. 92) recruits nationally within his class.

On3/Rivals also ranked the Riverview, Fla., native as the N0. 15 overall 2026 recruit in his home state and the No. 22 shooting guard in the nation, while 247Sports listed him at No. 110 nationally and the 18th-highest prospect in Florida.

Cal, Florida State, Purdue, Cincinnati, Clemson, Washington and others pursued Jones, who was listed as a 4-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals.

Before transferring to IMG Academy, Jones began his high school career at Bell Creek Academy in his hometown.
