While Pat Narduzzi was welcoming his team into Pitt’s football facility Thursday for the first official day of training camp, he stepped away to accept an important phone call.

It came from four-star offensive tackle Ryan Baer of Eastlake, Ohio, who said he plans to enroll next year.
Baer is the first four-star prospect in Pitt’s class of 2022, and the first four-star offensive lineman since Mt. Lebanon’s Alex Bookser in 2014.
Also, at 6-foot-8, 331 pounds, Baer may be the physically biggest addition to the program in many years.
Baer has scholarship offers from 15 Power 5 programs, including Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan State, Virginia, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Baylor. He is ranked 31st in the nation among offensive tackles and 10th overall in Ohio, according to Rivals.com.
Pitt has targeted its offensive line while constructing the ‘22 class that now numbers 13 players, including offensive linemen Isaiah Montgomery of Virginia Beach, Va.; Ja’Kavion Nonar of Belle Grade, Fla.; and Bradley Mann of Jacksonville, Fla. Pitt’s class is ranked 44th in the nation and ninth in the ACC, acording to Rivals rankings.
Prospects can sign binding letters of intent in December.
