Gandy (6-foot, 170 pounds) holds an impressive offer sheet, with 17 schools seeking his name on a letter of intent. Those schools include Penn State, West Virginia and Notre Dame, plus Pitt’s ACC counterparts Virginia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Commitments are non-binding until signing day in December.
Gandy is rated a three-star recruit and the 66th cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com. In Georgia, he is the 69th overall prospect.
Pitt holds seven confirmed verbal commitments, including four who committed in the past five days. Defensive tackle Elijah Statham of Smyrna, Del., recently decommitted. He is the brother of Pitt redshirt freshman offensive lineman Michael Statham Jr.
The other six Pitt commitments are defensive back Aveon Groce of Mansfield, Ohio; wide receiver Addison Copeland II of Buffalo, N.Y.; defensive ends Jimmy Scott of Athol Springs, N.Y., and Central Valley’s Sean FitzSimmons; running back Jordaan Bailey of Tampa, Fla.; and kicker/punter Sam Vander Haar of Melbourne, Australia.
