Pitt middle linebacker Brandon George has decided to use his final season of eligibility elsewhere after announcing on social media Monday night his intention to enter the transfer portal.

George was among five seniors with eligibility who were honored at senior night before the final home game Nov. 16.
If George decided to return, there might have been a place for his veteran presence in the middle of Pitt’s defense. Middle linebacker Shayne Simon’s eligibility expired at the end of the season, his sixth in college.
George shared time this season with Simon after serving in a reserve role from 2019-2021 and being limited to four games in 2022 because of an injury.
While playing in all 12 games without a start, George finished fifth on the team in tackles with 49. He recorded one sack among his 4 1/2 tackles for a loss and also intercepted a pass.
Pitt has several young linebackers who received playing time this season, including freshmen Braylan Lovelace (Leechburg), Jordan Bass and Rasheem Biles, redshirt freshman Kyle Louis and redshirt sophomore Nick Lapi. But while losing Simon and George, Pitt may need to find a veteran linebacker in the transfer portal.
