The news keeps getting worse for the Pitt football team.

For the second time in a month, the Panthers have lost a starter on the defensive line. Junior tackle Keyshon Camp, who started and recorded a half-sack and two quarterback hurries against Virginia, injured his knee in the game and will need season-ending surgery.

Pitt lost defensive end Rashad Weaver early in training camp to the same injury.

This is Camp’s second major injury in two seasons. He missed the final seven games last year with an upper-body injury.

“We are really heartbroken for Keyshon,” coach Pat Narduzzi said in a statement. “He put a tremendous amount of work in during the offseason and was outstanding against Virginia before he got hurt. Keyshon is a strong young man, though, and I know he won’t let this adversity sidetrack him.”

Camp (6-foot-4, 285 pounds) had been sharing one defensive tackle position with senior Amir Watts, who also recorded two quarterback hurries against Virginia. Jaylen Twyman, a redshirt sophomore, is the other starting tackle.

Camp’s injury likely means more playing time for redshirt freshmen Devin Danielson (Thomas Jefferson), David Green (Central Catholic) and Tyler Bentley. But losing Camp hurts the depth at a position where coaches like to rotate several players, especially early in the season when the weather is warmer.
