Pitt men's basketball to host Providence in exhibition game
Pitt fans missing the old Big East Conference can enjoy a battle with a formal men’s basketball rival this fall.
The Panthers will host Providence in an exhibition game to open the season Oct. 19 at Petersen Events Center.
Tip-off time is still to be determined.
Pitt will make a return trip to Providence for an exhibition at the start of the 2026-27 season.
The Panthers lead the all-time series with Providence, 31-17, including a 12-1 mark since the 2003 season. The Panthers left the Big East Conference before the 2013-14 season to join the ACC.
Many Pitt fans will recall when Jerome Lane shattered a backboard with a slam at Fitzgerald Field House on Jan. 25, 1988 against the Friars, with broadcaster Bill Raftery saying, “Send it in, Jerome!”
