Pitt right-handed pitchers Logan Evans and Dylan Simmons were chosen Tuesday in the 12th round by the Seattle Mariners and 15th round by the Cincinnati Reds on the third day of the MLB Draft. They were the 367th and 458th players drafted.

Evans (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) transferred from Penn State after the 2021 season, moving from the Nittany Lions bullpen to the starting rotation at Pitt. He started nine games this season for the Panthers, compiling a 5-3 record with 42 strikeouts in 49 innings. He improved his 2022 ERA from 7.42 to 5.88.

Evans’ best performance this season came in a victory against Virginia, the No. 7-ranked team in the nation, when he struck out nine over seven innings and retired 21 of the last 24 batters he faced. He also had a season-high 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a victory against California, and he threw seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six in a victory at Georgia Tech.

Simmons (6-3, 245) transferred from Florida State this season and finished second on the Panthers with 60 strikeouts in 24 relief appearances and only 39 1/3 innings. He was 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA.
