Former Pitt player and Beaver Falls standout Sheldon Jeter will suit up for the inaugural U.S. Pan American Games 3x3 basketball team.

Jeter, who plays for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G-League, is a 6-foot-8 rookie forward. He was chosen by a selection committee after he played in the Red Bull USA Basketball 3x3 Nationals in May in Las Vegas.

He will be joined by recent gold medalist Kareem Maddox, who played for the winning U.S. team in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Amsterdam — coached by Point Park’s Joe Lewandowski — along with former Division II NABC All-American guard Dominique Jones and Jon Octeus, another G-League player, with thhe Windy City Bulls.

The Pan American Games are July 27-29 at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibo in Lima, Peru.

Jeter, who played at Vanderbilt before transferring to Pitt, averaged 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds last season for Maine, which also has another local talent, 6-7 forward Maverick Rowan, who played at Lincoln Park.

The U.S. women’s team consists of USA gold medalists in Connecticut teammates Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Christyn Williams, and Oregon players Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu.

The 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will feature 3x3 basketball for the first time.
