Pitt received a third verbal commitment from a high school offensive lineman when Tai Ray of Apopka, Fla., announced Monday morning on his Twitter account that he plans to enroll next year.

Ray (6-foot-6, 280 pounds) joins Ryan Carretta and Colin Van Rooy — offensive linemen who attend high school in Ohio— as the first three at that position in Pitt’s class of 2023. He is the fourth prospect from Florida, joining running back Montravius Lloyd, defensive end Antonio Camon and Shadarian Harrison, who could play on either side of the ball.

Ray, a three-star prospect, has scholarship offers from Charlotte, Dartmouth, Florida Atlantic, Indiana and South Florida, plus eight others. Carretta and Van Rooy are also three stars.

Carretta (6-5, 318) is ranked the 35th overall prospect in Ohio. While attending St. Charles High School in Columbus, he received offers from 17 schools, including Duke, Illinois, West Virginia, Tennessee, Iowa State, Michigan State, Kansas, Michigan, Purdue, Kentucky and Louisville, according to Rivals.com.

Van Rooy (6-5, 300) attends Strongsville High School, where he attracted eight scholarship offers. Eastern Michigan and Akron are among the schools recruiting him.

Meanwhile, Pitt lost safety Shelton Lewis from its ‘23 class when he decommitted Sunday 22 days after he said he planned to enroll next year. Lewis (5-11, 180) attends high school in Stockbridge, Ga., and has offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina and N.C. State.

Pitt’s class currently numbers 13 prospects who have made their intentions public. Pitt is ranked 24th in the nation and fifth in the ACC by Rivals.com.

Commitments are non-binding until national signing day in December.
