Wide receiver Cameron Monteiro of Brockton (Mass.) High School pledged to Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi that he plans to enroll next year, a commitment he followed up Wednesday with an announcement in his hometown.

Monteiro (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) mainly plays wide receiver, but he is more than a pass catcher. He has had success as a wildcat quarterback at Brockton. His size, athleticism and pass-catching ability will make him an important get for Pitt wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood.

Monteiro, rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, chose Pitt over offers from Virginia, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Kentucky.

He is the 18th announced recruit in Pitt’s class, although other unidentified prospects have told Narduzzi they plan to enroll. All commitments are verbal and non-binding until signing day in December.

Pitt is working on a possible top-10 class this year, its group of verbally committed prospects having risen to No. 9 in the country earlier this week. Pitt’s class is currently ranked 10th after Monteiro’s commitment.

Securing Monteiro, even with a verbal, non-binding pledge, is important for the Panthers, who do not have an abundance of wide receivers in their 2024 class.

Pitt landed one of its two four-star prospects from the class of 2024 on Christmas Day when wide receiver Ric’Darious Farmer verbally committed. Since then, Farmer has remained committed, but he has listened to overtures from West Virginia and even visited the Morgantown, W. Va., campus earlier this month.
