Pitt senior long snapper Cal Adomitis ponders using NCAA's extra year of eligibility

Pitt’s Cal Adomitis and Carson Van Lynn celebrate with Alex Kessman after Kessman’s extra point put the Panthers up 35-34 over UCF Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at Heinz Field.

Cal Adomitis likes long snapping for Pitt so much that he might not want to leave at the end of the season, even though he is a senior.

The NCAA will give back a year of eligibility to all fall student-athletes as a way to lessen the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus.

“Not to say too much,” Adomitis said, “but, I think, this might not be my last year at Pitt with the way things are going with covid and how everyone’s getting a year of eligibility back.”

He said he has had “a minor discussion” on the topic with senior kicker Alex Kessman and junior punter/holder Kirk Christodoulou, but it’s too early for any of the trio of close friends to make a definitive decision.

“When the ruling first came out, we were deep in (training) camp so it’s not like we were all able to sit down and put a lot of focus into it,” said Adomitis, a Central Catholic graduate. “We had more pressing things at hand at the time.

“Yeah, it’s been a discussion that we’ve had here and there. I don’t think anybody’s really had the opportunity to discuss it with their families enough to really make a 100% decision on whether they will or will not at this point.”
