NC State’s D.J. Funderburk scores past Pitt’s Terrell Brown in the second half on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Petersen Events Center.

Terrell Brown, who was the only Pitt player honored at Senior Night, isn’t finished playing basketball.

Brown, the third-leading shot blocker in Pitt history with 173 blocks, has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal and will attempt to enroll at another school as a graduate transfer. Only Charles Smith and Eric Mobley recorded more blocks than Brown in their Pitt careers.

Brown, a 6-foot-10 forward from Providence, R.I., was a freshman during former coach Kevin Stallings’ last season (2017-18) when Pitt finished 0-19 in the ACC. He played four seasons at Pitt, but will utilize another year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA offering a free year due to the pandemic.

“I’m proud of Terrell for sticking it out,” coach Jeff Capel said near the end of this season. “I think he’s gotten better because of that experience. I think he’s gotten tougher. I think he’s become a better basketball player.

“He’s one of the guys in our program who’s really tried to believe and buy in to the stuff that we’re doing and the way we’re trying to change this.”

Brown, who will be 23 next basketball season, started a career-high 17 games as a freshman. Overall, he played in 118 games, with 46 starts, in four seasons. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in his career.
