Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi yells to his team as they play against Virginia Tech during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, in Pittsburgh.

Pitt football resumed spring practice Tuesday morning at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side after postponing drills for the past week because of covid-related protocols.

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi led the team through four of its 15 scheduled practice sessions before the pause.

This is the second consecutive spring the Panthers have had practice interrupted. Pitt canceled drills after three practices last year at the outset of the pandemic when the entire sports world went on pause.

Pitt played its entire 11-game schedule last fall, with only one postponement. The Georgia Tech game eventually was played Dec. 10, but the team chose not to go to a bowl game.

This spring, players, coaches and staff had been tested for covid once a week, Narduzzi said before the pause.

Pitt’s spring game had been scheduled for April 17 at Heinz Field. There is no immediate word on the status of that game or how Pitt plans to replace the lost practice sessions.

Narduzzi is scheduled to address reporters Tuesday afternoon.
