Pitt tailback Desmond Reid ruled out against Louisville
Pitt will be without All-American tailback Desmond Reid on Saturday vs. Louisville, per the Panthers’ final player availability report submitted to the ACC at 10 a.m.
Pitt (2-1) and Louisville (3-0) kick off from Acrisure Stadium at noon following a Panthers bye week.
Reid, who has rushed 24 times for 142 yards and a score this year, along with six receptions for 71 yards, left the Backyard Brawl on Sept. 13 late in the first quarter due to an unspecified injury, and did not to return in West Virginia’s eventual overtime win.
The Panthers’ first bye week of the season following that game looked potentially advantageous to get Reid back for Louisville. Pitt listed him as “questionable” on their first two availability reports Thursday and Friday.
But Saturday morning, with all ACC teams required to hand in a final injury update on league gamedays, Reid’s chances at suiting up evaporated.
Pitt defensive back Tamon Lynum was listed as a game-time decision, while tight end Jake Overman did not appear on the final submission, indicating he’ll suit up.
Louisville running backs Isaac Brown and Duke Watson, both listed as questionable throughout the week, will play.
In Reid’s place, redshirt freshman Juelz Goff is expected to handle most of the carries out of the backfield.
Goff has 21 rushes for 84 yards so far, with two touchdowns, three receptions and 23 yards through the air.
Reid’s absence also has ramifications on special teams, as he opened up the season as Pitt’s primary punt returner, taking one 88 yards to the house in Week 1 vs. Duquesne.
After Reid went down vs. West Virginia, receiver Kenny Johnson, who usually returns kicks, slid into punt return duty, while fellow wideout Deuce Spann filled in for Johnson.
