Pitt coach Dan Fisher leads his team against Washington during the NCAA women’s volleyball Tournament April 19, 2021, at the CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

After leading Pitt volleyball to its first NCAA Regional Final this year, coach Dan Fisher hopes he improved his lineup by adding Penn State transfer Serena Gray to the team.

Gray transferred to Pitt after earning Honorable Mention All-America from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2018 and 2019.

“I’m beyond excited to announce this,” Fisher said in a statement. “Serena is one of the top players in the country, and we expect her to have an immediate impact here at Pitt. It was the right fit for her culturally and academically.”

Gray, 6-foot-2, was a starting middle blocker for three seasons at Penn State, and will have two years of immediate eligibility at Pitt. Penn State reached the NCAA regional final in 2018 and ‘19 and the semifinal in 2020.

A native of Temple City, Calif., Gray was ranked the No. 5 PrepVolleyball.com Senior Ace in 2018. She was a member of the 2016 U.S. Youth National Training Team and competed for the same club volleyball program (SG Elite) as Pitt’s Kayla Lund.
