Pitt’s Jaylon Barden, who displayed promise in his first two seasons before disappearing from the wide receiver rotation in 2022, announced Monday his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

He joins safety Judson Tallandier II, a senior from Largo, Md., who also said Monday that he plans to transfer.

Barden, a junior from Lizella, Ga., caught 16 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns over the 2020 and 2021 seasons. But when opportunities arose this season after the departures of wide receivers Jordan Addison and Taysir Mack, Barden had trouble getting on the field.

Tallandier, who has been with the team since 2018, received his first significant playing time as a reserve safety this season, recording 15 tackles, including one sack for a loss of 8 yards. He has one season of eligibility remaining. Tallandier also played special teams during his time at Pitt.

He played in eight games and caught just three passes for 19 yards while senior Jared Wayne and transfers Konata Mumpfield and Bub Means earned the bulk of the playing time.

Barden is the second Pitt wide receiver to announce plans to transfer this year. Jaden Bradley left the team in October.

Notes: Pitt wide receiver Jared Wayne, defensive end Dayon Hayes and safety Erick Hallett II were named ACC players of the week at their respective positions. Redshirt freshman safety Javon McIntyre was named ACC rookie of the week.
