Pitt will restrict on-campus attendance at spring sporting events
The University of Pittsburgh, already under shelter in place and elevated risk mandates, will restrict attendance at on-campus spring athletic events for the remainder of the season.

Only families of student-athletes and staff members and selected guests will be permitted to attend. University officials hope to resume normal procedures for fans in the fall.
Under the shelter-in-place order, students should only leave their rooms or apartments to attend classes, pick up food, shop for essentials or other necessary activities. Pitt is advising students to hold group work and student activities virtually.
Campus dining will be available via takeout only, beginning Thursday. Common areas such as residence hall lounges, recreation rooms and kitchens closed Wednesday night.
Pitt has recorded large jumps in covid-19 case counts the past two weeks. Officials said there were 30 new infections reported last weekend.
Pitt’s football team paused all activities last week for covid-related protocols and returned to practice Tuesday. Pitt’s off-campus spring game is scheduled for April 17 at Heinz Field. Coach Pat Narduzzi said he hopes fans will be permitted to attend.
