While rebuilding his roster after winning only two of 18 ACC games in 2021-22, Pitt women’s basketball coach Lance White has added two transfers from Big Ten programs in the past two days.
Maryland transfer guard Channise Lewis is the fourth member of Pitt’s ‘22 signing class.
Lewis, who has two years of eligibility remaining, missed the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons with injuries and played in only nine games in 2020-21 before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
“I’m ecstatic that Channise is joining our family,” White said in a statement. “I’ve known and watched Channise for a long time, and I am so happy to get the opportunity to coach her.”
Lewis came to Maryland as the No. 55 overall prospect in the class of 2017 and appeared in 77 games, with 45 starts at point guard. She averaged 25.4 minutes, 4.8 points, 4.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 39% from the floor and 36% from behind the 3-point arc.
Lewis joins transfer forward and five-star recruit Gabby Hutcherson at Pitt. She played the past two seasons at Ohio State and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Hutcherson played in 36 games for the Buckeyes while averaging 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds and shooting 35.2% from behind the arc.
