Keith Gavin, who led Pitt wrestling to its best team finish at the NCAA championships since 1970, was named ACC Co-Coach of the Year. Gavin shared the honor with N.C. State’s Pat Popolizio after a vote by conference head coaches.

Pitt wrestlers Nino Bonaccorsi, Gregg Harvey, Cole Matthews, Micky Phillippi and Jake Wentzel won at least one match at the NCAA championships in St. Louis. Pitt sent Bonaccorsi and Wentzel to the national finals, the first time since 1963 the Panthers had multiple NCAA finalists.

Pitt earned 40 1/2 team points, the most scored by the Panthers under the current scoring format. Pitt placed 11th, its best finish in 51 years.

Gavin joins Dan Fisher (volleyball, 2017 and ’18) and Holly Aprile (softball, ’18) as the only Pitt coaches named ACC Coach of the Year.

All of Pitt’s NCAA qualifiers are expected to return next season.
