Pitt senior wide receiver/returner D.J. Turner has been invited to participate in the 2021 College Gridiron Showcase & Symposium Jan. 17-21, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Turner, who joined the team in September after transferring from Maryland, is Pitt’s second-leading pass catcher, with 39 receptions for 552 yards (14.2 per catch) and two touchdowns. He caught 15 passes — one short of a Pitt record — for 184 yards in the victory against Virginia Tech.
He also is Pitt’s chief returner, averaging 8.4 yards on punts and 21.9 on kickoffs.
Pitt has one game remaining: Dec. 10 at Georgia Tech.
Participants in Fort Worth will be evaluated in individual, noncontact drills. They also will attend meetings and, possibly, sit down with NFL scouts and executives.
The 2020 College Gridiron Showcase attracted 150 scouts from 31 of the 32 NFL teams and all nine CFL teams.
Christodoulou punter of the week
Pitt junior Kirk Christodoulou was named the Ray Guy Award’s National Punter of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 46.1 yards on 10 punts at Clemson.
He previously was recognized following Pitt’s victory at Florida State on Nov. 7.
In the loss to Clemson, Christodoulou placed five punts inside the 20-yard line, and Clemson gained zero yards after 10 punts.
For the season, only eight of his punts have been returned for a total of 83 yards.
Christodoulou is averaging 44.7 yards on 51 punts to rank 20th in the nation. He leads the ACC with 22 inside the 20 (only one touchback.).
