Pitt's Kenny Pickett invited to Manning family quarterback camp

When Archie Manning is asked how much contact his famous sons have with campers and counselers at the Manning Passing Academy, he is quick with an answer.

“Every minute for 24 years,” he said Monday. Or, every minute for as long as the camp has been in existence.

That’s what awaits Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is one of 45 college quarterbacks invited to serve as counselors at the camp June 27-30 at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La.

Archie, who runs the camp with his sons Cooper, Peyton and Eli, said Pickett first came to the attention of camp officials, thanks to his grandson Arch, Cooper’s son and a freshman quarterback at Isidore Newman (La.) High School. Archie said Arch, a serious college football fan, had noticed Pickett playing for Pitt over the past two seasons.

Archie Manning said his sons will work closely with the counselors and there will be “private time” where they can talk football and quarterbacking. The counselors also will help tutor the 1,200 campers expected to attend.

Pickett, who is entering his junior season at Pitt and his second as a full-time starter, will be joined by four other ACC quarterbacks, including Heisman Trophy candidate Trevor Lawrence of Clemson, Virginia’s Bryce Perkins, Duke’s Quentin Harris and Florida State’s Alex Hornibrook, plus Notre Dame’s Ian Book. Alabama’s Heisman hopeful, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert of Oregon and Jake Fromm of Georgia also are scheduled to attend.
