With spring football concluded and nearly four months until training camp, Pat Narduzzi can catch his breath and relax — at least as much as any college football coach can relax these days.
Narduzzi’s first bit of offseason relaxation will occur April 30-May 2 at the 16th annual Southern Company Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament at Reynolds Lake Oconee, outside of Atlanta. Pitt’s coach will be part of a field of 20 current and former college football coaches who will compete for a share of a $300,000 purse for charity.
Proceeds from the competition benefit charitable foundations selected by the coaches. Narduzzi’s winnings will go to UPMC Children’s Hospital.
The event will be played in a two-man, 18-hole scramble format. Organizers said the Stableford scoring system will be used to help balance handicaps and encourage aggressive play.
Among those coaches joining Narduzzi in the field will be Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Syracuse’s Dino Babers, Florida State’s Mike Norvell and Chan Gailey, former Georgia Tech coach and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator.
