Pitt joined Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame as the only schools with multiple consensus All-Americans after the NCAA on Thursday bestowed that designation on senior defensive ends Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver.

Pitt hasn’t had two consensus All-Americans in the same season since 1986 (offensive tackle Randy Dixon and defensive end Tony Woods). The Panthers last had two defensive consensus All-Americans in 1977 (tackle Randy Holloway and safety Bob Jury).

The NCAA uses five All-America selectors to determine an annual college football Consensus All-America Team: Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation. A minimum of two first-team honors are needed to earn consensus status.

Jones was named a first team All-American by Sporting News and Walter Camp. He was a second-team on the Associated Press and AFCA teams.

Weaver was selected first team by AP, AFCA, FWAA and Walter Camp. He was a second-team Sporting News pick.

They join a list of 53 all-time consensus All-Americans at Pitt (ninth all-time among FBS schools), including Jock Sutherland, Warren Heller, Marshall Goldberg, Joe Walton, Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, Hugh Green, Sal Sunseri, Jimbo Covert, Bill Fralic, Larry Fitzgerald and Aaron Donald.
