Pitt’s Rashad Weaver sacks Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito in the third quarter Saturday, Aug. 19, 2020 at Heinz Field.

Pitt defensive end Rashad Weaver has secured 1½ fewer All-American honors than he recorded sacks during the season, but he may not be finished.

The most recent honor arrived Wednesday when he was named to the first team of the Football Writers Association of America All-America team. His name now appears on six All-America teams.

Weaver, who recorded 7½ sacks and 14½ tackles for a loss, also has received the following postseason honors:

• First team All-American, Associated Press

• Second team, Sporting News All-American

• First team, CBS Sports All-American

• First team, ESPN All-American

• First team, Football Focus All-American

• First team, All-ACC

• First team, Associated Press All-ACC

The FWAA All-America team is among the five used in the NCAA’s selection of an annual consensus All-America college football team. The others are the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation. The AFCA and Walter Camp teams will be announced Thursday and Jan. 7, respectively.

Weaver is the first Pitt defensive player named to the FWAA first team since Aaron Donald in 2013. Kick returner Quadree Henderson was honored in 2016.
