Pitt wide receiver Tre Tipton (5) is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Senior wide receiver Tre Tipton, an Apollo-Ridge graduate, will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery Wednesday, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said.

I love these type of moments it’s like shedding new skin to be a better me.

This is the fourth time in Tipton’s five seasons at Pitt he suffered a season-ending injury. He missed the entire 2017 season after he was injured in a bicycle accident before the start of training camp. He returned last season and played in all 14 games.

Tipton, 23, played in three games this season before getting hurt. He caught seven passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. The 3-yard touchdown reception against Virginia in the opener gave Pitt a 14-13 halftime lead.

Narduzzi said Tipton might be able to get another year of eligibility next season.

“I think he has a chance to, if he wants to get that,” the coach said.

“Another tough deal for Tre. Incredible kid. We’ll miss him on the field and off the field. He’s one of our leaders, and the kids really respect Tre.”
