After a one-year hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Pony League World Series is returning to Washington in August.

Games will be played Aug. 13-18 at Lew Hays Pony Field.

Pony Baseball and Softball decided to bring the event back citing “significant domestic and international interest in resuming a normal tournament season,” the lessening impact of the pandemic and the loosening of restrictions by Gov. Tom Wolf.

The organization said teams from its Mexican and European zones will not attend and the participation of teams from the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific zones remains up in the air, but all four domestic zones as well as the host area zone and Washington County will be represented.

The organization also announced a three-year extension of its sponsorship agreement with Dick’s Sporting Goods.
