Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was asked Tuesday about his brother Jay’s firing as coach of the Washington Redskins. He mentioned his own firing, as well as his fathers and added, “welcome to the club, bro.”
Jon Gruden did not speculate on whether Jay might join his staff, according to ESPN.
But he did share some thoughts.
“I’m obviously very disappointed for my brother,” Gruden said during his weekly media conference. “It was a long night, last couple of nights. He worked hard. Got a lot of respect for my brother. Obviously, disappointed for him getting fired.
“My dad’s been fired,” Gruden added. “I’ve been fired. Jay’s been fired and … welcome to the club, bro.”

Jay Gruden was dismissed from the Redskins on Monday morning after a winless 0-5 start to the season. Jay was with the team for six seasons and amassed a 35-49-1 record with one playoff appearance, a Wild Card game loss in 2015.
Jon Gruden is in the second season of his second stint with the Raiders. He was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 (after landing there in a trade from Oakland). Jon did win a Super Bowl with the Bucs. This season he has the Raiders off to a 3-2 start.
Jim Gruden, father to Jon and Jay, was an assistant coach at Indiana University (1973–77) and at the University of Notre Dame (1978–80).
