OL Rashaad Coward called up, DL Isaiah Buggs ruled out for Steelers vs. Titans
The Pittsburgh Steelers reinforced their depth on the offensive line by calling up Rashaad Coward from the practice squad to be available for Sunday’s home game against the Tennessee Titans. The Steelers also announced Saturday that reserve defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was downgraded to “out” on the league-mandated game status report.
A five-year NFL veteran signed as a free agent in March, Coward began the regular season on the Steelers’ active roster but never appeared in a game and was released in October. Following a nine-day stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Coward was back on the Steelers practice squad by Thanksgiving.
A veteran of 15 NFL starts for the Chicago Bears in 2019-20, Coward will help mitigate the loss on the interior line of B.J. Finney, who went on injured reserve this week because of a back injury.
At left guard against the Titans, John Leglue is expected to make his second NFL start. J.C. Hassenauer is practicing but has not yet come off IR to be able to back up Leglue.
Buggs appeared in each of the Steelers’ first 10 games but was scratched (with no injury designation) for the Nov. 28 game in Cincinnati and has been on the injury report because of a knee injury for the three weeks since.
