Ravens choose Penn State punter Jordan Stout in 4th round
All-American Jordan Stout did it all at Penn State — punting, placement kicking and kickoffs.
After making Stout the first punter drafted Saturday, (fourth round, 130th overall), the Baltimore Ravens will use him almost exclusively as a punter. Which makes sense with Justin Tucker, one of the best kickers in NFL history, handling the extra-point and placement duties.
But Stout (6-foot-3, 209 pounds) brings athleticism to special teams, along with a strong leg.
He set scoring records at Honaker (Va.) High School — in soccer. But he also was all-state in football over three seasons.
Initially a walk-on at Virginia Tech in 2017, Stout transferred to Penn State in 2019 and handled kicking duties for the Nittany Lions for three seasons. He was a kickoff specialist in ’19 (66 of 83 touchbacks) and even added a 57-yard field goal.
In 2020, he seized the punting job and averaged 41.5 yards with eight inside the 20-yard line while recording 42 touchbacks on 50 kickoffs and another 57-yard field goal.
Stout blossomed last season, earning third-team Associated Press All-American and Big Ten Punter of the Year honors. He averaged 46 yards per punt, with 35 footballs dropped inside the 20 and only three touchbacks. He also hit 16 of 23 field-goal attempts and boomed 59 touchbacks among 65 kickoffs.
Congratulations @JORDANSTOUT92! You’ve earned this opportunity! We appreciate what you’ve given to Penn State. Happy Valley will always be home & we look forward to welcoming you back! https://t.co/BkpSXrxVdO pic.twitter.com/gMTBEZnqYV
