Since the Baltimore Ravens drafted eventual MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson in 2018, they will have played the rival Pittsburgh Steelers 10 times by the time Sunday’s meeting kicks off.
Jackson will have started three of them.
Jackson again will miss a game against the Steelers. That had been assumed for days, but it was made official when the Ravens released their status report Friday afternoon. It listed Jackson as out because of a knee injury that has kept him from Baltimore’s past four games.
That includes the Dec. 11 win in Pittsburgh, when Tyler Huntley started and Anthony Brown came on in relief. Huntley will be the Ravens’ starter for a third consecutive meeting against the Steelers, dating to last season’s regular-season finale when the Steelers won at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium.
Jackson was not promoted to starter at quarterback for the Ravens until midway through his rookie season. By then, both games against the Steelers had been played. Jackson sat out the 2019 regular-season finale because the Ravens had clinched their playoff positioning, and in 2020 he missed what originally was scheduled as a Thanksgiving game between the teams because of covid-19 protocols.
Jackson is 1-2 as a starter against the Steelers, who have split four meetings with their AFC North rivals when a backup is playing in Jackson’s place over the past four seasons.
Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters (calf) also is listed as out for Sunday. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell (knee), reserve safety Geno Stone (hamstring) and reserve tight end Nick Boyle (illness) are listed as questionable. The remainder of the Ravens’ roster has been cleared to play.
