Ravens-Steelers game still on, despite reports of 2 more Ravens positive tests
Two additional members of the Baltimore Ravens organization have tested positive for coronavirus, according to multiple reports from national organizations. However, the NFL maintains the game will be played as currently scheduled: 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at Heinz Field.
“No change to the status of the game,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email.
The Ravens had left Baltimore to travel to Pittsburgh when they learned of the newest positive tests, according to multiple reports.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited unnamed sources in reporting the two positive tests, adding they were “not unexpected and not a concern for the game.” The NFL Network also cited unnamed sources in corroborating that the positive tests came from one player and one “staffer.” Both reports said the Ravens, regardless, traveled to Pittsburgh.
“The NFL told the team these individuals were previously identified as potential positives and there was no concern for further spread,” read the NFL Network report from Mike Garafolo.
The Athletic reported the player who tested positive practiced with the team Monday and Tuesday (Monday was a walkthrough), although the Ravens had made it be known their workouts were done with social distancing in mind.
Wednesday’s game already has been postponed three times from its original Thanksgiving evening scheduled kickoff. The Ravens at one point had 20 players on its reserve/covid-19 list, including reigning NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and several other starters. The Steelers have three players on their covid-19 list, including starters running back James Conner and defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt.
