First Tee Pittsburgh’s summer youth golf program will begin July 6, and families are able to register now.
The sessions for ages 5 to 18 feature various classes and programs at 10 locations throughout Western Pennsylvania.
The First Tee of Pittsburgh, according to president and CEO Eric Amato, is the region’s only youth-centric non-profit program which uses the game of golf to help improve the lives of young people of all skills and abilities.
Its goal is to provide education and youth development programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices.
Amato stresses that because of covid-19, First Tee of Pittsburgh, headquartered at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course in Schenley Park, is implementing health and hygiene practices for the safety of all participants.
Those measures include small student-to-coach class sizes, expanded hours and number of classes to accommodate interest, and expanded time between classes for sanitization.
Participants are invited to bring their own clubs, but First Tee of Pittsburgh will provide clubs as needed.
In addition to in-person instruction, online skills development will be available with the Op 36 app.
“The Bob O’Conner Golf Course is a walking course, so we can maintain proper social distancing for the safety of golfers and youth,” Amato said.
First Tee of Pittsburgh also is nearing the completion of the new Arnold Palmer Learning Center.
