Report: Kevin Colbert will step down as Steelers GM after NFL Draft
Kevin Colbert’s tenure as Pittsburgh Steelers general manager could be winding down.
NFL Network reported Sunday that Colbert, the long-time general manager who has been in charge of the organization’s football operations since 2000, will retire when his contract expires after the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Steelers will conclude their regular-season, the 22nd under Colbert, on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
A team spokesman said the Steelers would not comment on the report.
Under Colbert’s watch, the Steelers have won two Super Bowl championships and appeared in three title games. The franchise has not had a losing season since 2003.
Colbert, who turns 65 this month, received a one-year contract extension in March 2021. Under an agreement with team president Art Rooney II, he has been working on a year-by-year basis since 2019. Each contract has run through the next year’s draft.
Colbert was the pro scouting coordinator for the Detroit Lions before he was hired by the Steelers. He was given the title of general manager in 2010 and became a vice president/GM in 2016.
Two potential replacements already are on staff: Omar Khan, the team’s vice president of football operations and business administration; and pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt.
