The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Anthony Mantha to a one-year contract that carries a salary cap hit of $2.5 million.

The deal also offers a performance bonus of up to $2 million. According to Puckpedia, Mantha can collect bonuses of $250,000 for every 10th game he plays in up to 80 games.

Mantha, 30, spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Calgary Flames but missed most of the season because of a knee injury he suffered in mid-November. Surgery was required to repair one of his ACLs.

In the 13 games he did play last season, Mantha scored seven points (four goals, three assists) while averaging 13:54 of ice time per contest.

Capable of playing either wing, Mantha just completed a one-year contract with the Flames that carried a salary cap hit of $3.5 million.

A left-handed shot, the massive Mantha (6-foot-5, 234 pounds) has been productive during his 10-year NHL career when healthy. A three-time 20-goal scorer, Mantha reached that barrier as recently as the 2023-24 season. Splitting that campaign between the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights, Mantha scored 44 points (23 goals, 21 assists) in 74 games.

Mantha, a native of Longueuil, Quebec, was a first-round draft pick (No. 20 overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in 2013.

His grandfather, Andre Pronovost, is a retired forward who was part of the Montreal Canadiens’ dynasty in the late 1950s, winning four consecutive Stanley Cup titles. In addition to the Canadiens, Pronovost also skated for the Boston Bruins as well as the Red Wings in the 1960s. Later in his career, Pronovost suited up for the former Pittsburgh Hornets franchise of the American Hockey League.
