Report: Penguins sign forward Joona Koppanen
The Pittsburgh Penguins signed former Boston Bruins forward Joona Koppanen to a two-year, two-way contract that carries a salary cap hit of $775,000.
The left-handed Koppanen, 25, has spent the majority of his professional career at the American Hockey League (AHL) level, though he did make his NHL debut last season, appearing in five games and recording one assist while averaging 10 minutes, 50 seconds of ice time.
A fifth-round selection (No. 135 overall) of the Bruins in the 2016 NHL Draft, Koppanen (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) spent most of last season with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, appearing in 64 games and scoring 35 points (12 goals, 23 assists).
Penguins sign defenseman Ryan Shea
The Penguins signed defenseman Ryan Shea to a one-year, two-way contract that carries a salary cap hit of $775,000.
A left-handed shot, Shea, 26, spent the entire 2022-23 season with the Texas Stars, AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. In 70 games, Shea scored 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists).
Shea (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) was a fourth-round selection (No. 121) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 NHL Draft.
