Tanner Muse, a core special teams player who spent the past two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, is negotiating with the Steelers on a contract, NFL Network reported Friday.

Muse, 26, became a free agent in March when the Seahawks declined to tender him a contract as a restricted free agent.

Muse, a 6-foot-2, 227-pound safety from Clemson, was a third-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, but he never played a regular-season snap for the franchise. Muse injured his foot in his rookie season, and it required season-ending surgery.

The Raiders cut Muse the next season in training camp, and he caught on with the Seahawks’ practice squad. Converted to linebacker, Muse was promoted to the active roster late in the season and appeared in six games in 2021.

Muse played all 17 games for the Seahawks last season and participated in 70% of the team’s special teams snaps but just 80 on defense.

The Steelers are trying to replenish a special teams unit that has several players still unsigned in free agency, including Derek Watt, Benny Snell, Miles Boykin and Marcus Allen.
