Running back Devyn Ford has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Penn State running back Devyn Ford left the team last October to focus on academics. Now, he’s looking to get back on the field with a new program.

Ford formally entered the transfer portal Monday, according to multiple reports. The news was first reported by Lions 247.

Ford, who played in the first four games of Penn State’s 2022 season, used a redshirt last year. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Ford signed with Penn State as a four-star prospect in the 2019 class. He logged 294 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman and posted similar numbers (274 yards, three scores) as a sophomore in the covid-shortened 2020 season.

Ford chipped in only 61 yards on 14 attempts in 2021, and his role continued to diminish with last year’s emergence of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen. In four games played in 2022, Ford managed seven carries for 37 yards.

Ford’s departure in October was the second of three running back exits. Caziah Holmes entered the portal in August, and Keyvone Lee did so after the season.

“Devyn Ford is no longer with the team,” James Franklin announced after Penn State’s win over Northwestern on Oct. 1. “He has decided that he wanted to focus on academics, and we wish him the best. I think you guys know I’ve praised Devyn Ford for years, have a ton of respect for him, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
